Function of the flowers
Although they contribute to the beauty of nature, especially during the spring season, the existence of flowers has a reproductive purpose: to contribute to the production of vegetable seeds. In this way new plants are able to emerge and grow.
Composition and reproduction
A simple flower is composed of sepals and petals. The function of the sepals is to protect the flower when it is still in bud (early stage of development), or at the time it closes at night. The colored petals have the role of attracting insects to pollinate the flower, that is, bring the pollen of another flower of the same species, depositing it in the stigma.
The pollen grains are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye. To view them you need to use a microscope, so you can see that they can have different shapes.
After being deposited in the stigma, pollen grains follow through extremely narrow tubes, following from the stylet to the plant ovary. Before ovaries develop in the ovary for seed formation, they need to be touched by one of these thin tubes so that they can be fertilized.
The flowers generate their pollen at the ends of the shelves (called anthers). For the most part, it is better for plants to be fertilized by pollen from another species, this is through the help of insects (bees, wasps, butterflies and some species of flies) or by wind, as in the case of grasses. and some trees.
Plants that have flowers can be classified into families according to the type of flower they produce. Some examples are dandelion, rosaceae (like roses), umbeliferae (similar to umbrellas), ranunculaceae (buttercup family), and legumes (produce seeds like peas). or beans).
Well-known garden flowers should be given special treatment in their planting, as they cannot be planted before the brightness of the environment, the soil type and its humidity are known. This care is not necessary in the case of wildflowers (which grow in forests), as they have the ability to develop according to the soil and climate of each region.
