Mouth Hygiene: Important for Health


Maintaining good oral hygiene is of fundamental importance for maintaining health. In addition to providing clean teeth, oral hygiene habits can prevent the emergence of oral diseases and tooth decay.

Mouth Hygiene Tips

- Always brush your teeth after daily meals. Brushing should be done correctly (if you don't know how to do it, get help from a dentist).

- Brushing should be done with circular motions or towards the gum tooth.

- The tongue should also be brushed as it accumulates food scraps.

- Floss after meals. Preferably, this process should occur before brushing.

- Change toothbrushes every 3 or 4 months. Over time, the brush bristles wear out, which impairs the brushing process.

- The brush should preferably be soft and small headed. With these features it is possible to make a more suitable brushing.

- When leaving home always carry a brush and toothpaste. When eating out of meals or drinking something (juice, soda, vitamin) try to brush your teeth.

- Avoid overeating foods high in sugar (candies, sweets, cakes, cookies). These foods, in addition to sugary sodas, can cause tooth decay.

- Excessive consumption of coffee and some types of teas can make your teeth yellow. Try to avoid these products.

- Cigarette, besides darkening the teeth and leaving an unpleasant breath, is one of the causes of oral cancer. Try to quit this addiction for better oral health.

- Drink plenty of water during the day. This process helps in oral cleaning as it stimulates the maintenance of salivary flow.

- Go to the dentist every six months to check how your oral health is doing. If you have a toothache or change in your gums or other part of your mouth, see a dentist immediately.
